The committee in charge of GIZ-SCIDA 3 projects in Kenya and Uganda under the officials of various organizations as well as the Ministry of Agriculture in West Pokot County and the neighboring Turkana County inspected the projects that have been implemented in Swam Ward in Kacheliba West Pokot County under the funding of the GIZ organization.

The co-ordinator of the disaster management authority NDMA,West Pokot County, Michael Kimiti said that the organizations have paid close attention to the area due to the fact that it was severely affected due to the drought witnessed.

“This is one of the wards that have been severely affected by the drought. There may have been rains here and there, but the community has not risen as it deserves. And that is why these projects have been started to ensure that the residents of this area are economically stronger,” said Kimiti.

Residents led by the chairman of the projects in the Kacheliba area Raphael Tiapar said that the GIZ organization has sponsored many projects that have been of great benefit to various groups in the area including farmers and which help them in making a living.

“This market did not have water, but now we have enough water thanks to the water project that was implemented by the GIZ organization. Water helps us economically because we sell it at five shillings for every 20 liters,” said Tiapar.

On his part, the area Chief Shaaban Akida commended the GIZ organization and the West Pokot county government for funding the projects, through which he said the Kacheliba market now has enough water unlike what it was before.

“We are grateful for the efforts of the GIZ organization in cooperation with the county government because now our people have enough water,” said Akida.
