West Pokot County leaders have lauded the ordination of Bishop Michael Chorey as the Bishop of the Anglican Church Diocese of Karamoja in neighboring Uganda considering he is from the Pokot community.

Led by West Pokot County Governor Simon Kachapin, the leaders who attended the bishop’s ordination ceremony said his election will contribute to the strengthening of peace among the communities that live in the border areas of West Pokot County and the neighboring Uganda.

“We are happy for the ordination of Michael Chorey as the bishop of the Anglican Church, the Diocese of Karamoja. Being the first person from the Pokot Community to hold this position, we know he will contribute much to ensure peace among the communities living in Moroto District,” said Mr. Kachapin.

His statements were echoed by the former West Pokot County senator Samwel Poghisio who called on the Anglican Church, Diocese of West Pokot County to learn from the Diocese of Karamoja which conducted the election of its leaders peacefully.

He said the conflicts being witnessed have led the church to lack stability.

“This should be a lesson to the Anglican Church Diocese of West Pokot. We should emulate this church and avoid conflicts that have led to a lack of stability in our church,” said Mr. Poghisio.

On his part, Bishop Chorey congratulated his coronation, promising to use the opportunity to preach peace among the residents of various communities in Moroto District.

“Every minister of the word is called to be an ambassador of peace. First to have peace with God, and then peace with your fellow men. With this office of the bishop, I will be able to move around the five districts and speak about peace,” he said.
