Leaders across the political divide have sent their messages of condolences to the family of the late Chief of the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF), General Francis Omondi Ogolla and the families of eight other senior military officers following their demise.
The nine died on Thursday afternoon in a chopper crash at Sindar area, Elgeyo Marakwet.
The plane reportedly caught fire shortly after taking off from Cheptulel on the borders of west Pokot County and the neighboring Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The Member of Parliament for Sigor constituency West Pokot county Peter Lochakapong said that it is sad that the KDF officers have lost their lives in line of duty, trying to ensure that peace is witnessed at the borders of kerio valley counties.
“It is sad that the officers passed on while on duty, making sure that the residents of the troubled Kerio valley region live in peace,” said Lochakapong.
Lochakapong said that the officers had organized a peace meeting with the residents of Cheptulel area and assured them of security and normalcy.
He mourned the General saying the CDF was not only an accomplished military leader, but also a devoted patriot who dedicated his life to serving and protecting the country.
“We have lost a devoted Patriot who used most of his years in serving and protecting our nation. We are really saddened with his demise,” he said.
Following General Ogolla’s passing, President William Ruto has made a proclamation for flags to be flown at half-staff at the state house and public buildings as the country enters three days of mourning.
