West Pokot Leaders Demand Implementation Of Development Agreement Signed Between Kenya And Uganda
By Emmanuel Oyasi,
West Pokot County leaders have called on the Kenyan government to implement the agreement signed between the former Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta with his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Kaguta Museveni concerning development in the border areas of West Pokot county and the neighboring Uganda.
Speaking during the visit at the Alakas border point, the West Pokot County Deputy Governor Robert Komole, who was accompanied by the Kenyan ambassador to Uganda, Joash Maangi, said that the Ugandan government has already implemented the agreement, contrary to the Kenyan Side.
“The former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta signed an agreement with his Ugandan counterpart concerning developments at the border points. As of now, our neighbor has implemented the agreement but Kenya has done nothing,” said Mr. Komole.
At the same time, Komole said that the West Pokot county government is developing strategies to strengthen its relationship with neighboring Uganda to achieve development for the benefit of the residents.
“As a county, we are developing strategies to strengthen our relationship with our neighbors to accelerate developments for our people,” he added.
His statement was echoed by Alale Member of County Assembly John Bosco Gilatum who said that residents of the Kenyan side should also benefit from the agreement signed by the two parties.
“Our people also have the right to benefit from this agreement, because when implemented it will create job opportunities as well as increase revenue collection at the border point,” said Mr. Bosco.
