West Pokot Elders Want Gen Z Demonstrations Stopped
By Benson Aswani,
The Gen Z youths’ demonstrations against President William Ruto’s administration have received mixed reactions from a cross-section of Kenyans.
Led by Musa Lekiris, elders in West Pokot County have called on the youths to stop the protests and give President William Ruto a chance to address their grievances.
Speaking to Kalya Fm Digital, the elders have urged the youth to accept the dialogue proposed by President Ruto, to find solutions to pressing issues causing them to take to the streets.
They also appealed to the president to include them in the talks.
“We ask our youths to stop demonstrating and give a dialogue chance as proposed by President William Ruto. The President has received their grievances and there is no need for further protests,” said Mr. Lekiris.
However, the Bunge la Mwananchi chairman West Pokot chapter Paul Ng’olesia praised the Gen Z youths’ demonstrations which he said have stirred the beginning of good governance in the country.
Mr. Ng’olesia asked the president to shun the habit of going against the constitution in his administration.
“I thank the Gen Z youths for playing a big role in changing the narrative in this country. A lot of things have changed in a very short time since they started putting pressure on the president to change his leadership approach,” he said.
The Gen Z demonstrations organized on Tuesday did not take place in West Pokot County, as heavy security was beefed up at county government offices.
