Former West Pokot County senator, Samwel Pogisio, has criticized the Kenya kwanza government for what he termed as the misuse of funds that are collected from Kenyans through taxes.

Speaking to Kalya Digital, Mr. Poghisio said that the current government is not keen in bettering lives of Kenyans, by introducing punitive taxes to finance what he said the biggest budget ever.

Mr. Poghisio further said the trend of misuse of tax payer’s funds by the current government on projects that are of less importance to Kenyans, is what is angering the youths who are caring out demonstrations to oppose the 2024 financial bill.

“The problem of this country is not about paying tax. The problem is misuse of public funds by the government. This is what is angering many youths who have taken it to streets to protest against this financial bill,” said Mr. Poghisio.

At the same time, the former senator has congratulated the youths for standing out and protesting against the 2024 financial bill, saying that they have started to fully involve in national issues, a manifestation of growth of democracy in the country.

“It is a good gesture of growth of democracy in our country when youths come out to raise their voices against oppressive actions of the government,” he said.

In addition, Mr. Poghisio expressed his confidence that the bill will be further amended in the third reading that is slated for Tuesday, saying that the bill is too punitive.

“It is my hope that more amendments will be done on this bill during the third reading on Tuesday, because it is too punitive,” he added.
