The West Pokot County Government through the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock has launched an exercise to vaccinate livestock against Lumpy skin disease.

Speaking early on Tuesday after leading the exercise in the Kanyarkwat area, the county’s agriculture minister Wilfred Long’ronyang encouraged the co-operation of livestock farmers and the agriculture department to ensure that the disease is completely eradicated.

Mr Wilfred Long’ronyang has also warned farmers against cons posing as veterinarians and instead use government approved doctors.

“We are vaccinating our cattle against limpy skin disease. In order to completely eliminate this disease in our county, the cooperation of farmers and the department of agriculture is very important. I also ask farmers when they need the services of veterinarians, to make sure that they use authorized doctors so that they are not cheated by people pretending to be doctors,” said Long’ronyang

Residents of Kanyarkwat Area led by the local elder Lokorluka Lotunalei congratulated the county government for the exercise asking it to give the vaccine three times a year to strengthen the health of livestock as it is their main economic support.

“We are very grateful to the county government for this vaccine. What we are asking is that they give our livestock this vaccine three times a year, because we are very dependent on livestock economically,” said Lotunalei.
