Security officers carrying out security operations in Kerio valley are to blame for the continued insecurity cases at the borders of West Pokot, Turkana, Baringo and Elgeyo Marakwet counties.

In a statement to the news room, the former Member of Parliament for Sigor constituency Philip Rotino, claimed that insecurity cases are still being reported in Kerio valley, due to incompetent security officers given the responsibility of ensuring that cattle rustlers are fished out.

Rotino said the officers who were sent to those areas have not been reaching the main areas where bandits are believed to be residing.

“We have tried everything possible but the police are the very ones paralyzing efforts to ensure security. These police do not visit places where the bandits are believed to be residing,” said Mr. Rotino.

In addition, Rotino has complained of a small number of police reservists NPR, sent to those areas to help in ensuring security to locals.

He said this has made it difficult to open schools closed in those areas due to lack of security despite the government’s assurance.

“I thank God that the government listened to us and brought NPR officers. But now the number of officers that the government gave us is very low. You cannot put a few officers in porous areas and expect positive results,” he said.
