By Benson Aswani,
Officials from the Ministry of Information, Communications and Digital Economy are conducting inspections in Pokot West County to identify areas that are still facing communication challenges to ensure that the situation is addressed.
Speaking to journalists, the executive secretary in the ministry of information, communication and digital economy Eric Kiraithe stated that it is a constitutional right for every citizen to be connected online, and the Kenyan government will first ensure that this is achieved.
“It is the right of every citizen to be connected to the internet, and as the Kenyan government we will first ensure that the internet reaches every part of the country,” said Kiraithe.
Kiraithe said that there are areas in the county that have been difficult to reach online due to the mountains and valleys.
While addressing the challenge he assured residents that officials in the ministry of ICT will identify the relevant areas to ensure that the people of those areas are also served properly.
“Due to the mountains and valleys in this county, there are many places that have been difficult to reach with the internet.
Speaking after the meeting with the officials on behalf of the county commissioner Khalif Abdulahi, the deputy commissioner of Pokot South David Bowen said they will cooperate with the officials to ensure that the goals of the ministry of communication are achieved in the local areas.
“We will cooperate fully with the ministry to ensure that our citizens in this county, especially the local areas, are reached by important government services,” said Bowen.
