Parents Urged To Take Good Care Of Their Children During The Holiday Season

By Benson Aswani,

Parents have been urged to be close to their children and perform their parenting duties, especially this season when children are at home for a long holiday after the closing of schools.

Speaking to Kalya Digital, West Pokot County Director of children affairs Philip Wapopa, urged parents to use these two months to spend quality time with their children to understand the issues they face and guide them accordingly.

“I urge our parents to be close to their children during this holiday season. Let us spend time with them and get to understand the challenges they are facing at their age and guide them,” said Mr. Wapopa.

At the same time, Mr. Wapopa blamed parents for leaving the entire responsibility of taking care of children in the hands of teachers.

He insisted that it is the parents who have the first responsibility for their children, and being close to them will help identify the kind of friends they have and the things they like.

“Many parents have left their children in the hands of teachers. We have to understand that the first responsibility of raising children lies in the hands of the parents,” he said.

He further cautioned parents against allowing their children to attend night functions which he said may lead to them being exploited by people with bad intentions causing them harm.

“Most of the people with the bad intentions use night functions to exploit children. I urge parents to be careful not to allow their children to attend such functions,” he added.
