National Assembly Approves Lilian Tomitom’s Appointment to Zambia

The National Assembly house Committee has approved Hon Lilian Tomitom who was nominated by President Wiliam Ruto to the High Commission of Kenya to Zambia.

In a press release statement by National Assembly on Wednesday 17th 2024,it stated that the approval by the house paves way for next stage of Kenya’s foreign mission.

Notably the committee further approved twenty four others appointed to various Ambassadorial and High Commission positions

“A House Committee has approved 25 persons who were nominated by President William Ruto to various ambassadorial and High Commission positions. This paves way for fresh leadership in Kenya’s foreign missions,” read the statement in part.

Speaking when he tabled the Committee’s report in the House on the vetting exercise of the nominees, Defense, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee Chairperson Hon Nelson Koech said one nominee was however rejected for failing to pass the test.

However, the other nominees who were approved included; Ms. Catherine Kirumba Karemu (London, United Kingdom) and Hon. Joash Arthur Maangi (Kampala, Uganda).

Others are Lt. Gen. (Rtd.) Jonah Mwangi (Tehran, Iran), Ms. Caroline Kamende Daudi (Ottawa, Canada), Lt. Gen. (Rtd.) Peter Mbogo Njiru (Islamabad, Pakistan,) Hon. Fred Outa (Cairo, Egypt), Prof. Anne Kisaka Nanguli (Dakar, Senegal), Mr. Timothy Kaluma Mcharo (Algiers, Algeria) and Hon. Christopher Andrew Lang’at (Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire).

Ms. Jessica Muthoni Gakinya, (Rabat, Morocco), Hon. Halima Yussuf Mucheke, (The Hague, Netherlands), Mr. David Kiplagat Kerich, (Washington DC, USA), Ms. Everylyne Mwenda Karisa, (Havana, Cuba), Dr. Peter Mutuku Mathuki, (Moscow, Russia), Mr. Aden Mohamud Mohamed, (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia), Mr. Kenneth Milimo Nganga, (Abu Dhabi, UAE), Mr. Abdi Aden Korio, (Muscat, Oman), Ms. Gertrude N. Angote (UNEP, Nairobi).

Notably, the session was presided over by Speaker Moses Masika Wetang’ula, E.G.H,MP Moses Wetang’ula with Hon Koech prevailing on the House to approve the report.

Likewise, the Defence Committee in it’s Report also resolved that henceforth, Consuls-General should undergo vetting after their nomination by the appointing authority and that the appointing authority recalls the serving Consuls-General not vetted for vetting and approval by the National Assembly.

Hon. Koech thanked Members of the Committee for their sacrifice and commitment during the vetting progress.

Meanwhile in his remarks,Hon. Koech stated that Mr. Charles Githinji Keiru who had been nominated to represent Kenya in Goma, DRC was rejected.
