The Cabinet Secretary of Interior and Administration of National Government Prof. Kithure Kindiki has been asked to step up on the reinstatment of schools within the bandit prone areas.

Leaders in west pokot led by Masol Ward representative Wilson Chekeruk has asked Kindiki to ensure that the schools that were closed in the border areas of West Pokot County due to lack of security are repaired and opened.

“Minister Kindiki should work from top to bottom to ensure that the closed schools are repaired and opened to give students from those areas the opportunity to get an education like their peers in other parts of the country,” said Chekeruk.

While making his remarks at Masol secondary school during the thanks giving of Masol Secondary School, Chekeruk stated that the schools were badly damaged by bandits.

Further the area MCA also noted that the region is hugely affected by bandits who have continued stealing livestock, and that the current situation cannot allow educational activities to continue.

In addition, Chekeruk called on CS Kindiki to increase the number of NPR reserve officers in those border areas.

At the same time, Chekeruk appealed to the government to help the residents of those areas who are facing the threat of hunger due to the long dry season that has continued to be witnessed.

“This area needs urgent help. Many residents do not have food due to the drought that has been witnessed here for a long time,” he said.

Likewise his remarks were loudly emphasized by the area residents who said that they have had to use wild fruits due to the lack of food stating that they indeed have a food problem here.

“We are asking the government to bring us food aid, because if the situation continues as it is, people may die following the edge of hunger,” said the residents.
