Kindiki on Spot for Increased Insecurity in North Rift.
By Benson Aswani.
Deputy governor west Pokot county David Komole has launched attacks on security and internal affairs cabinet secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki for what he termed as targeting the leaders of West Pokot county in the fight against banditry.
Speaking during a harambee function at AIC church Karas, Komole said the fight against banditry cannot bear any fruits by ordering arrests of leaders to record statements at DCI offices.
He asked Prof. Kindiki to organize a meeting of the leaders from the troubled counties, in order to find a long term solution to the insecurity issue.
“Prof. Kindiki is busy ordering Pokot leaders to record statements with DCI lying to himself that this will help to tackle insecurity issue. I want to tell Prof Kindiki that this is not the way to deal with this problem,” he said.
His statements were echoed by Nandi governor Stephen Sang who was among the leaders who attended the function.
Similarly, Governor Sang asked the security department headed by Prof. Kindiki to change how they are fighting banditry as the tactics that are being used seem not to be bearing fruits.
“It is high time we change the way we are dealing with insecurity problem in kerio valley, because the tactics that are being used are not bearing fruits. Our people are still being killed despite of the security troops presence,” said Mr. Sang.
On his part, Kericho senator Aaron Cheruiyot blamed underdevelopment in badly stricken counties as the main cause of insecurity.
“Insecurity is a factor of underdevelopment. The residents of the affected counties feel sidelined in matters development thus contributing to increased insecurity,” said Mr. Cheruiyot.
