Stakeholders in the education sector in West Pokot county are calling on the government and security departments to increase efforts to deal with the movement of criminals in the border areas of West Pokot County to give the people a chance to live in peace.

Speaking at Sebit High School, the Director of Teachers service commission (TSC) in the Kipkomo region, Robert Aleutum, mentioned the areas of Chesogon, Arpolo and sapulmoi as the most affected by insecurity, with lessons being greatly affected.

Aleutum stated that many of the students in those areas may not be able to achieve their dreams in life due to frequent raids by livestock thieves, which has made many of them unable to go to school.

“Study activities in the areas of Chesogon, Arpolo and Sapulmoi have been very difficult due to the insecurity that continues to be witnessed in those areas. The government through the security department should make efforts to deal with these criminals,” said Aleutum.

At the same time, Aleutuma criticized some political leaders in Pokot West County for what he said was spreading incitement in schools. Instead, he asked them to use their position in the community to ensure that every student in the county goes to school.

“There are some political leaders who are scolded a lot regarding the condition of some schools in this county. I am asking the leaders to stop causing incitement in the school. They should make sure that every student gets an education and not be scolded as they do,” he said.
