Leaders in West Pokot County have raised their concerns about the controversial Chepchoina land owned by a section of West Pokot Community.

This comes in just after a section of the Pokot community raised complains of being deprived off the pieces of land they own in Chepchoina farm, on the border of West Pokot and Trans Nzoia county.

Former West Pokot Senator, Samwel Poghisio, has expressed his disatisfaction at how Pokot residents owning the pieces of land are being mistreated.

According to Poghisho, most of the residents who have been evicted from the land are residents of the Pokot community who were given those pieces of land by the government.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Kalya Digital, Poghisio claims that most of the residents have been deprived off their land by government officials and given illegal settlements to continue their activities.

“There are these farms in Chepchoina that were given to the Pokot, but now they are being confiscated and given to slums. These government officials who are doing these things should be humane,” said Poghisio.

In addition, Poghisio said the residents who have been affected in the conflict are from areas where drought is experienced highly in West Pokot County.

Further adding that the aim of giving them pieces of land in the Chepchoina farm by the government was to enable them to continue agricultural activities to earn a living.

“The reason these people were given farms in Chepchoina was to help residents living in dry areas to grow food and help their communities. We as leaders will now take steps to ensure that these people get justice,” he said.
