Academic activities are expected to resume in schools within Cheptulel areas of West Pokot County previously affected by insecurity issues.

The County’s Commissioner Khalif Abdulahi has assured the residents of the border areas of West Pokot County where schools were closed due to insecurity that academic activities will resume soon.

Speaking on Monday in Sigor area during a peace meeting, Khalif said that more than one hundred KDF officers are in the area to continue the renovation of schools that were damaged by criminals.

According to the County Commissioner, the move is set to ensure that students study in a better environment when academic activities are resumed.

“There are more than 100 officers in the areas of Cheptulel who are continuing the renovation of damaged schools, and I encourage parents to remain calm as academic activities will soon resume in those schools,” said Khalif.

In addition, Khalif said that in order to strengthen the safety of students in those schools, the government through the security department is planning to send reserve NPR officers.

Meanwhile, he further noted that each of the schools affected will be protected by three NPR officers.

“We will send NPR officers to those schools where each school will be guarded by three officers. We want our children to study in an environment that is safe without being disturbed by a few criminals,” he said.

At the same time, Khalif said five officers will be sent to patrol the hospitals in the area to ensure the safety of health workers and patients in those clinics, and to ensure that medical services continue as usual.

“We cannot close a clinic that serves the people because of a few people who are trying to disturb the peace. We will ensure that the clinics located in those areas are protected by NPR officers,” he said.
