The NRT organization has developed a project to distribute Gala goats in various areas of West Pokot County, the residents of Masol area, Sigor constituency being the latest to benefit.
Speaking to journalists after the exercise, the director of the resilience program in the NRT organization Rebecca Chebet said that 40 houses have benefited from the program which was developed in six villages of Masol.
He mentioned that the goats will strengthen the residents economically due to their ability to produce a lot of milk and meat.
“We have given 40 goats to the residents of this area of Masol through our resilience program. We believe that these Gala goats will be useful for the residents considering that they provide a lot of milk and meat due to their size,” said Chebet.
Masol Community Conservancy chairman Lomung’in said the program will be of great benefit to residents of the area, given that a large number of residents depend on livestock for their income due to the drought conditions that are not convenient for crop cultivation.
“This area is facing drought and therefore the cultivation of plants cannot flourish. These goats will be very useful for us economically,” said Lomung’in.
Residents of Masol area led by Eric Kalipon praised the project which they said will greatly help in reducing cases of insecurity, as most of the youth will now be involved in breeding activities that will help them make a living and stop engaging in cattle rustling.
