West Pokot Governor Flags off Porridge Flour for Nursey Schools

West Pokot County Governor Simon Kachapin has launched porridge flour for nursery children which is expected to be distributed to at least 135 ECDE schools.

The County boss launched the program on Thursday 30th May 2024 at his office in Kapenguria.

According to the County Boss, the porridge is set to benefit at least 7500 school going children in the County.

While speaking to Kalya Digital News after the launch, Kachapin praised the program which he said has fueled attendance of many children attending school, especially from families who are facing the challenge of getting food.

“Since we started the porridge program in schools, the number of students has increased significantly, considering that many families in this county are facing the problem of getting food,” said Kachapin.

In addition, Kachapin used the opportunity to congratulate the National Government for ensuring that the school nutrition program is returned to the budget, saying that it will greatly benefit counties located in dry areas.

“I am very grateful to the government for restoring the school nutrition program in the budget for the next fiscal year because this program has been of great importance very dry county in the country,” he said.

On his part, the assistant commissioner of the county, Emily Ogolla, explained the importance of parents in West Pokot county to ensure that their children attend classes, saying that it is through education that there will be equality in society.

“It is only through education that there will be equality in society. Therefore, I encourage the residents of this county to ensure that their children attend school,” he said.
