Gender-based violence cases are reported to be on the rise in West Pokot County despite the efforts by different stakeholders to make sure that this vice is faced out.

Speaking to Kalya Digital on Tuesday, the Centre for indigenous child right (CICL) director Everlyn Prech said that girls are the most vulnerable.

Further while speaking to Kalya Digital, she mentioned the biggest factor to GBV being early marriage and rape cases which has been on the rise recently.

“West Pokot County has been mapped as the hot spot county on cases of gender-based violence, with girls being the most vulnerable. We have been experiencing a rise in cases such as child marriage and rape, despite the efforts of different stakeholders,” said Prech.

However, Prech said that there are efforts by different stakeholders in collaboration with the judiciary to make sure that these cases are dealt with.

In addition, she highlighted that strategies are being put in place to make sure that the culprits face the full force of the law.

Likewise, Prech expressed confidence in the programs that are being carried out by the organization among the community saying they will offer a long-term solution to the vice.

“As an organization,, we are carrying out different programs for the community as one way of dealing with this vice,” she said.

Among other programs, the organization is carrying out sensitization among the community on the importance of educating girl child.
