West Pokot County Govt Launches Ksh60M Seedlings

West Pokot County Governor Simon Kachapin officially launched maize seeds which are expected to be distributed to farmers in various parts of West Pokot County as they prepare for the planting season.
Speaking during the event which was organized Monday 18th at the Makutano stadium where various Pokot leaders were present.
On the other hand the County boss also launched fruit tree seedlings for Avocado and Mangoes.
While making his address Kachapin noted that his goal is to raise the standard of living of the county’s residents through agriculture.
“We aim to improve the lives of the residents of this county through agricultural projects, and that is why today we have launched corn seeds and fruit seedlings,” said Kachapin.
Additionally, Kachapin stated that his government has allocated 60 million shillings for the program which aims to benefit 136,356 farmers in the West Pokot county.
“We have allocated 60 million shillings for this project where we are targeting 136,356 farmers in this West Pokot county,” he said.
On his part, the quality officer at the Kenya seed company, which is a major stakeholder in the program, Ernest Lelei, asked farmers to ensure that they buy quality seeds that have been inspected and guaranteed.
“In our company, we ensure that the seeds that are produced are properly inspected and ensure their quality. So we want the farmers to make sure that they use seeds that give them a decent yield,”said Lelei.
