By Emmanuel Oyasi,
Parents in West Pokot County have been called upon to support the government’s efforts of ensuring education to every child by completing the remaining school fee, especially after the government and the members of parliament playing a bigger part in paying the fee through bursary.
Speaking at St. Catherine Chemnyal girls high school on Monday 4th during the launch of Ksh 47,000,000, education bursary by Kapenguria member of parliament Samwel Moroto, the West Pokot county executive member (CEC) for education Rebecca Kide said parents should also play their part.
She also asked the head teachers to ensure that their schools register good results.
“It’s like education is now free in this county. Members of Parliament have given bursary, and as county government we have given Ksh 22,000 to boarding schools. Therefore, parents should make sure they complete the remaining fee,” said Mrs. Kide.
According to Mrs. Kide, West Pokot County was left behind in matters of development for many years and now is the time when it should be achieved through educating the majority of residents.
“West Pokot County was left behind for many years in terms of development but now we no longer want to be left behind. Let’s educate our children so that through them we can achieve the developments we need,” she said.
Moroto launched a Ksh 47,000,000 bursary from the NG-CDF fund on Monday which aims to benefit 9,228 students in Kpenguria Constituency, West Pokot county.
