The head of public service West Pokot County, Martin Lotee has praised the sports events that are being organized in various parts of the county, terming them as of great impact to the youths.

Speaking at Tangasha stadium in Tapach, Pokot south constituency, after attending a sports event, Lotee said such events helps in ensuring that youths do not get the opportunity to get involved in issues that may affect their future.

“We have had sports activities in various areas of this west Pokot County which have greatly helped to keep young people busy and prevent them from getting involved in issues that may affect them in life,” said Lotee.

According to Mr. Lotee, the cases of insecurity, which are largely caused by livestock theft, have reduced since the initiation of these sports events.

“Currently, we have seen that cases of insecurity at the borders of this county have decreased significantly, because many young people now do not get the chance to think of involving themselves with these vices as a result of busy schedule of sports activities,” he said.

Meanwhile the alcohol trade in Pokot South Constituency may come to an end after a large number of residents suggested a stop to the issuance of licenses to liquor traders, in the public participation exercise that has been ongoing.

“Soon, the alcohol trade may be faced completely in this area. This is after most of the locals suggested not to issue licenses to traders who are developing the business,” said Lotee.

The public participation exercise on alcohol burn led by security chiefs has been going on for some time now in Pokot south due to residents’ complaints about excessive alcohol trade, which they claim has led to the increase in insecurity cases.
