The World Vision Organization is celebrating 16 years since it began its projects at Orwa, Sigor constituency in West Pokot County to improve the livelihoods of the area residents.

Speaking on Thursday at an event to celebrate 16 years of its activities in the area, the regional manager at World Vision, North Rift region Elijah Chiwe, said that the Organization has achieved much with the help of various stakeholders including the county government of West Pokot.

Mr. Chiwe said the organization has been able to address among other issues, the challenges of health, education, and oppressive cultures such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and early marriages.

“It is 16 years now since we began our activities in this region. Till now we have achieved much as an organization in the health and education sectors. We have also managed to reduce cases of FGM and early marriages,” said Mr. Chiwe.

West Pokot County Deputy Governor Robert Komole, lauded the World Vision organization for improving the livelihoods of the Orwo residents, assuring the full support of the county government in achieving other projects that are being developed in other areas of the county.

“I thank the World Vision Organization for what they have achieved in this area. On behalf of our governor I promise full support of the county Government in achieving projects in other areas of West Pokot County,” said Mr. Komole.

His statements were echoed by the area assistant chief Daniel Luwus who said the community has now seen the light due to the projects carried out by the organization.
