West Pokot governor Simon Kachapin has officially launched Kshs 600 bursary to benefit more than 44,560 students from West Pokot county.

Speaking during the launch at Chewoyet boys high school, Kachapin said his objective is to ensure that no student fails to achieve academic excellence due to financial strains.

“My government has allocated Kshs 600 million in bursary designed to benefit students across all levels of education. Our objective is to ensure that every eligible student receives the necessary support for academic excellence,” said Mr Kachapin.

Mr. Kachapin urged school principals to make good use of the funds they receive from the government, asking government auditors to do their job and ensure that schools spent funds received from the government on intended work to curb corruption in government institutions.

“Government auditors should do their job of ensuring that the funds that schools receive from government are spent on intended work,” he said.

His statements were echoed by the deputy governor Mr. Robert Komole who also asked the head teachers to make use of the funds given by the county government and avoid sending students at home for school fee.

“We urge our teachers to use the funds given to schools by the county government. We do not want to see our students on roads going home for school fee,” said Mr. Komole.

It is a move that has been applauded by education stakeholders, who said it has come at a time when parents are going through tough economic situations.
