By Emmanuel Oyasi,
Stakeholders in the human and livestock health sector, West Pokot County have devised a strategy to curb animal diseases that also affect humans.
Speaking after the meeting that brought together health stakeholders, the director of veterinary medicine West pokot county, Dr. Samwel Chelimo said that the project sponsored by Red Cross aims to curb the spread of diseases from animals to humans.
He called on the residents to cooperate with the experts in dealing with such diseases by providing information to field health officers in relation to any suspected case.
“We started this project in the year 2018, and we have seen that it has helped a lot in dealing with the spread of these diseases. People are giving us information which has helped us in curbing them particularly in remote areas,” said Mr. Chelimo.
The infectious disease coordinator West Pokot county Wilson Tarus said they have been mobilizing residents in local areas of West Pokot, the move that has greatly reduced the infection of such diseases.
“We have helped the community to gain awareness about these diseases, and we have received good cooperation from the locals which has reduced the infection,” said Mr. Tarus.
