Leaders in West Pokot county have called out KenGen power generation company for extorting West Pokot residents resources and leaving them without any benefits

The leaders led by the Deputy Speaker of the county assembly Victor Siywat, said that despite the fact that the company produces electricity in the Turkwel dam located in the county, the residents of the areas near the dam have continued to live in the dark while not benefiting from any of the company’s projects that.

In addition, Siywat who was speaking in Makutano Stadium at the seed launching event for farmers led by Governor Simon Kachapin criticized the move of the company’s offices to be moved to Kitale in Trans nzoia county.

According to the County boss the move is uncalled for further calling out the company to return those offices to Pokot West County.

“This west Pokot county has never benefited from any project from the KenGen company despite the fact that it is doing its activities in this county at the Turkwel dam,” said Siywat.

His statement was emphasized by the representative of Masol ward Wilson Chekeruk who said that he will present a bill in parliament that will lead to the compensation of the residents of those areas for what he claimed to have been defrauded by the company with the aim of denying them electricity in their homes.

“I will bring a bill to the county assembly that will require the KenGen company to compensate the residents of Turkwel for deceiving them that electricity will burn down their houses with the aim of depriving them of electricity,” he said.
