West Pokot Farmers Count Loses Following Huge Floods in the Region

Farmers along the Kanyang’aren River are counting losses after heavy rains swept away their farms.
Speaking to Kalya Digital the farmers led by Peter Autok Lomerngura said the floods that has affected their crops has caused several distructions in the region.
At the time, Lomerngura pleaded with the Red Cross and the government to provide for them maize seeds to replant their farms
“We ask the government to help donate us seeds to replant our farms,we do not have fences it has been swept away” stated Lomerngura.
According to residents the floods has caused more losses breaking bridges and making roads impassible.
Notably, this comes two days after the floods swept away Kodera footbridge. On Sunday night the floods covered Konyao trading center in the lower part that has forced business people to close their activities indefinitely.
Likewise it has also affected river banks of Ng’otut and heavy floods in Kangoletiang, River Suam further causing losses to farmers of Cherangan and Katopoton in Kodich ward.
Similarly, a lorry transporting goods to Kamla was swept away by floods in River Akorkeya in Amudat district.
Residents of Ng’otut have raised their concerns with the County Government to quickly respond to the situation.
“Come today to help us here Ng’otut we are really very stranded and we cannot carry even an expectant woman to health center “said Kemersia.
