West Pokot county government is developing strategies to drill bore holes in various areas facing water challenges following the drought that has remained a great challenge to the residents over years.

According to the county geologist Mr. Wilson Chelaruk, they are currently collaborating with the ward representatives to mark targeted areas before drilling operations begin.

Mr. Chelaruk said there are plans to drill 52 bore holes in the county which will be equipped with solar panels.

“We are grateful because the government has a plan to ensure that citizens have access to water. We have a plan to drill 52 bore holes that will also be installed with solar panels that will help in easy access to water,” said Mr. Chelaruk.

In addition, Chelaruk noted that the bore holes will be of great benefit to the residents of the target areas, by reducing the long distances they have had to walk in search of the precious commodity.

Further the County Geologist noted that the bore holes will also be of benefit for agricultural projects.

“This is a very important project for the residents of this county who have been suffering for long looking for water,” he said.

At the time he also applauded the residents of the targeted areas for being cooperative, terming it a success to the project.

“We have received a great support from the residents of the areas where we are planning to implement this project. This will help us in ensuring the success of this project,” he noted.
