State of Security Along West Pokot County and Kerio Valley

West Pokot County police commander Peter Katam has affirmed that security on the borders of West Pokot County and the neighboring counties of Kerio Valley has improved significantly.

Speaking to Kalya digital on Sunday, Mr. Katam praised the cooperation between the locals and the security officers, which he said has greatly contributed to the improvement of the security.

Mr. Katam noted that the security information provided by the locals to security officers has been of great help in curbing banditry in areas that were badly hit.

“I thank the locals of these areas because they have been of great help to us by providing information concerning cattle rustling. This cooperation has greatly contributed to the decrease of banditry,” said Mr. Katam.

In addition, Katam said that plans are underway to add national police reservists NPR at the borders of West Pokot County to further strengthen patrols, as they have contributed greatly to ensuring that security in areas prone to banditry.

“We are intending to add the number of national police reservists on the borders of West Pokot County, as they have been instrumental in ensuring peace at the borders,” he said.

At the same time, Katam gave a stern warning to those who are intending to use the United Democratic Alliance party (UDA) grass root elections to cause insecurity.

He said that the security agencies are on standby to make sure that the exercise is conducted in a peaceful environment, stressing that only party delegates will be allowed in the polling stations.

“To those who think will engage in heinous activities during UDA grass root elections, be ready to meet the full force of law,” he added.
