The presence of KDF officers in Cheptulel and Kaben areas on the borders of West Pokot County and the neighboring Elgeyo Marakwet County has been termed as a solution to cattle rustling.

According to the residents of the troubled kerio valley region, the presence of KDF troops has greatly helped in reduction of insecurity cases that have been a nuisance over years.

The Kaben- Cheptulel peace initiative community organization Chairman Dennis Kirop said, the stability that is being witnessed in those areas has given the residents opportunity to engage in activities that help them earn a living.

He called on the youths to embrace agricultural activities, which he said will help a lot in getting rid of the ideas of getting involved in cases of insecurity.

“The presence of KDF officers in Kerio Valley has greatly helped in dealing with cattle rustling that has been a problem in this area for many years,” said Mr. Kirop.

His statements were echoed by Gilbert Ruto who is a member of the organization, who has said that the peace meetings that are being organized by KDF officers with the locals are bearing fruits.

“There is a big difference since the KDF officers came to Kerio Valley. The meetings they have been organizing with the locals have continued to bear fruits,” said Mr. Ruto.

The Kaben- Cheptulel peace initiative community organization was started as one of the strategies to curb banditry and maintain peace among the locals.
