Pokot’s in Amudat Uganda Requested to Turn up For Census

The Woman Member of Parliament for Amudat district Betty Louke Chepokarial has asked Pokot community living in Amudat and those who reside in Kenya but acquire goods and services from Uganda to turn in large numbers to get counted in 2024 Uganda Census.
Speaking to Kalya Digital News, Chepokarial sited on the importance of the Pokot community to be counted, she said Pokot’s living from Amudat have been left behind for a long time despite being Ugandans.
“We are currently getting low allocation of funds from the central government since our population is still very small” said Chepokarial.
While making her remarks, she praised the Pokot elites stating that they are the ones who are now going to enumerate the people.
Likewise she emphasized on enumerators to take correct information for the good planning of Amudat district local government.
“We are very happy to learn that our own sons of the soil are the very people going to enumerate our locals within our territory,it’s now the right time to educate our children”added Chepokarial.
Worth noting, Uganda is set to conduct the National Population and housing Census 2024 with the reference night being 9th May 2024.
According to the officials the Census will be done in 10 days starting on 9th May 2024 to 19th May 2024.
The President of Uganda, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, launched the NPHC 2024 activity on December 12th2023. After every 10 years, Uganda holds a national census and the last one was carried out in 2014.
Meanwhile, the census plays a critical role in guiding planning, policy formulation, and programme implementation as well as monitoring development progress in line with the national goals and objectives.
In addition the census exercise will use digital technology to collect, process and disseminate census results.
Likewise, the digital census will enable the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) to produce accurate and timely demographic , social and economic.
