Parents In Sangar Hopeful As School Construction Reaches Its Completion

By Benson Aswani,

Parents in the Sangar area of Sigor constituency on the borders of West Pokot County and the neighboring Turkana County have received a sigh of relief regarding the fate of their children’s education after the completion of Sangar primary school.

The school was built by the government through the support of the World Bank.

Speaking after inspecting the school accompanied by Pokot Central Deputy County Commissioner Jeremiah Tumo, Sigor Member of Parliament Peter Lochakapong assured parents that learning activities will commence in January 2025.

“As residents of this area we are happy for the construction of this school and am assuring parents that teachers will be here by January next year to take care of our children,” said Mr. Lochakapong.

In addition, Lochakapong promised to ensure that the school is surrounded by a perimeter wall to ensure the safety of pupils considering it is built in an area that was the battleground of cattle rustling.

“We are looking for funds to ensure that the perimeter wall is constructed around this school to ensure the security of our kids considering this is an area that was badly hit by cattle rustling,” he said.

On his part, Pokot Central DCC Jeremiah Tumo said the school will contribute to peace in the area as it will bring together pupils from West Pokot County and the neighboring Turkana County.

“We are hopeful that this school will increase peace in this area as it will bring together the communities that have been at loggerheads for many years,” said Mr. Tumo.
