The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in collaboration with the security department in West Pokot County has organized a session to sensitize residents on insecurity concerns.

The meeting which was held in Orwa area brought a number of residents from the boarder counties of WestPokot and Turkana and was attended by various stakeholders led by Central Pokot Deputy County Commissioner Jeremiah Tumo.

Speaking to Kalya Digital News after the meeting on Monday, Jeremiah Tumo, noted the importance of the meeting that is set to bring a solution to the long-term problem of insecurity along the region.

“The IOM organization has organized this session to discuss the issue of security which has been a major problem among the counties of Kerio Valley for many years, because we know that it is through dialogue that we will be able to find a solution to this problem,” said Tumo.

According to Tumo, among the issues that were raised in the meeting include strengthening the basic structures of the area.

Likewise, part of the dialogue included providing security officers with modern equipment to deal with criminals as well as the government highlighting the situation of residents who have moved from their homes due to insecurity.

“Residents who have spoken in this session have mentioned the need to build roads, provide security officers with modern equipment to deal with criminals, as well as highlight the situation of residents who left their homes due to insecurity,” he said.

The residents of the area, led by Simotwo Domokwang, noted that although calmness has been witnessed in recent, more efforts are needed to ensure that the people continue their activities in a normal way.

“Although we have started to see stability in this area, we need the government to make more efforts to ensure that all criminals are faced,” said Domokwang.
