Lochakapong Terms Anti-Government Demonstrations As Politically Driven
By Emmanuel Oyasi,
Sigor Member of Parliament West Pokot County Peter Lochakapong on Wednesday led a meeting with the council of elders to condemn the protests by the Gen Z youths aimed at removing President William Ruto from office.
Speaking to Kalya Digital, Mr. Lochakapong strongly condemned the protests which he termed as having hidden intentions aside from what was believed to be the push for the withdrawal of the 2024 finance bill.
The Sigor lawmaker further claimed that some people are using the youths to fulfill their personal interests.
“Previously, we thought that these demonstrations resulted from the 2024 finance bill. But to this extent, we have now come to realize that it has nothing to do with the finance bill but to fulfill the personal interests of some people,” said Mr. Lochakapong.
Lochakapong, who is among the members of parliament who voted for the bill, defended his decision saying that the bill had many benefits that would fuel developments in his constituency.
“I voted for the bill because I knew it was going to benefit my people. But unfortunately, it has been withdrawn thus bringing the developments that were to be done in my constituency to a standstill,” he said.
He asked the youths to be calm, and give President William Ruto a chance to address their grievances especially after he headed to their call and withdrew the finance bill that was termed to be too punitive.
“I plead with our youths to be considerate of our country and stop these demonstrations that are destroying properties,”
