KMPDU Offers A Seven-day Strike Notice To The County Government Of West Pokot

By Benson Aswani,

The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has issued a seven (7) day strike notice to the County Government of West Pokot commencing Monday, 30th September, 2024 due to the failure to implement doctors CBA 2017 – 2021 entered on 6th July, 2017.

Speaking to Kalya Digital the KMPDU secretary North Rift region Dr. Kamonzi Mulei, said that several attempts to amicably address the issues have failed due to a lack of goodwill from the county government.

Among the demands that the doctors are pressing are promotions and redesignation.

“We sat and agreed about the promotions and redesignations of the doctors who went for further studies and came back as specialists but there is no goodwill from the county government,” said Dr. Kamonzi.

Dr. Kamonzi expressed his disappointment at the fact that other neighboring counties have implemented some of the doctors’ demands, while the county government of West Pokot has continued to violate the above agreements.

“Neighboring counties such as Trans nzoia have met some of the doctors’ demands such as promotions and redesignation and we do not see the reason as to why the county government of West Pokot has not done so,” he said.

He said that following the meeting by all doctors working in the county, West Pokot doctors have resolved to withdraw their services in all public health facilities effective Monday, 7th October, 2024 without any further notice if the above issues will not have been settled.

“Because the county government is not ready to honor its commitment, we have resolved to go on strike on Monday 7th October 2024, as this is the only language that is understandable by the government,” he added.
