Kindiki Assures Kerio Valley Residents of Gov’t Plan Towards Curbing Insecurity Cases
By Emmanuel Oyasi,
Cabinet Secretary of Interior and Administration of National Government Proffesor Kithure Kindiki has affirmed that the government aims to achieve the construction of several boarding schools in the Kerio valley area as a way of dealing with the insecurity caused by cattle rustling.
While speaking in Elgeyo Marakwet County, the CS Prof. Kindiki reiterated that education will help bring the local communities together and bury hostility.
Prof. Kindiki said, if children in Kerio Valley will embrace education, then they will not get involved in outdated cultures.
Kindiki said the government will do everything possible to ensure that lasting peace returns to the area.
“We aim to build several boarding schools in the Kerio valley that will serve students from all the counties of the Kerio valley region, as a way of dealing with cases of insecurity,” said Kindiki.
At the same time, Prof. Kindiki issued a stern warning to the criminals who promote cattle rustling, saying that the government will hunt them down, and that they will not allow a few people to disturb the peace of residents.
“We will pursue these criminals until we ensure that they are finished so that our people can live in peace. And I also warn the leaders who sponsor these criminal groups that we are coming for them, and we will arrest them,” he said.
Worth noting, Kerio valley counties have experienced insecurity issues for some time now, many residents fleeing their homes for fear of being attacked by suspected bandits.
The government has been putting strategies to deal with such cases, including sending security forces to badly hit areas, though such cases have continued to be registered.
