West Pokot County Commissioner Khalif Abdulahi, has praised the calmness that is being witnessed in the border areas of West Pokot County and the neighboring counties of Turkana and Elgeyo Marakwet.

Speaking at a security meeting that involved members of the peace committees at county and sub-county levels, organized at the Kapenguria police station, Khalif said that no case of insecurity has been reported in those areas in the past six months.

“For the last six months, we have had unprecedented peace in our county, particularly with our neighbors, Elgeyo Marakwet and Turkana counties. The areas of Kapushen and Kamelei in Pokot south are very peaceful,” said Mr. Khalif.

In addition, Khalif lauded the stakeholders in the security sector in West Pokot County for their efforts that he said have led to stability at the border areas that had known no peace for many years.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank all the officers for their commitment to ensure the safety and security of the residents of West Pokot County,” he added.

His statements were echoed by the chairman of West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet, and Baringo MCAs caravan David Moiben, who termed the cooperation between the security officers and leaders as a catalyst for stability.

“The cooperation that exists between the security officers and the local leaders is key in making sure that our counties remain calm. I am confident that things will return to normal with such cooperation,” said Mr. Moiben.
