Officials from the state department of housing and urban development have carried out public participation exercise in West Pokot County on development of the regulations of the affordable housing act.

Speaking after the exercise that was carried out at Mtelo Hall, the deputy director of the state department of housing and urban development Bonface Mule, said that they are carrying out the exercise in line with the constitution.

While speaking to Kalya Digital News, Mule noted that after the president’s approval of the affordable housing act, the law demands that relevant departments should involve citizens in developing regulations within 30 days.

“We are here in West Pokot for public participation as the law demands, in developing regulations for affordable housing after the president’s approval. This Exercise is being carried out in all the 47 counties,” said Mr. Mule.

The CECM for land, housing, physical planning and urban development West Pokot County, Esther Chelimo, said that the county government has already allocated land for an affordable housing project.

She urged the government to prioritize West Pokot County when implementing the project after the lawmaking process is completed.

“We have allocated land for the affordable housing project. We want the government to prioritize West Pokot County in implementing this project because we really need these houses,” she said.

Speaking on behalf of the West Pokot county commissioner Abdulahi Khalif, Kapenguria sub county deputy Commissioner Wyclife Munanda assured the public that the land allocated for the project is not controversial.

“We assure our people that the land that is allocated for this project is clean and has no any controversies,” said Mr. Munanda.
