EACC Officials Camp in West Pokot County

Officials from the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission(EACC) have visited West Pokot County in a bid to provide education on anti-corruption to the public and government officials.

The meeting which was held in Makutano town by EACC officials led by EACC Deputy Director in the Education Department Dr. Emily Moria on Tuesday 21st saw a number of officials from the County Government attend.

Speaking to Kalya Digital News, the Deputy Director in the Education Department and public awareness in the EACC commission, Dr. Emily Moria, said that they are having the trainings as one of the goals by the commission to ensure good ethics and leadership among government officials and public.

“We are here in this county to develop education among public officials as well as residents in general about how to prevent corruption, the aim being to ensure that corruption is faced in the country,” said Moria.

On his part, the manager of the EACC commission from the Northern Region, Charles Rasugu said the commission is up to task with the investigation related to the alleged misappropriation of funds that were allocated for the construction of schools in the border areas of WestPokot.

“There is an investigation that we are continuing in this county related to corruption issues, one of which is about the alleged embezzlement of funds that were allocated for the construction of schools in the border areas,” said Rasugu.

Similarly, the County Secretary, Jonathan Siwanyang, noted that the training is important as it will help ensure that cases of corruption are faced among public officials, reiterating cooperation with the commission in the investigation of various allegations of corruption.

“We are very grateful to EACC for bringing this training to this county. It will help a lot to face corruption issues among public officials and citizens,” said Siwanyang.

According to EACC officials the educative visit to West Pokot County is one of the various visits they are making in various counties across the Country seeking to provide education on how to deal with cases of corruption.
