Details of West Pokot First Cement Factory Launched in Sebit

The long awaited multi-billion clinker plant in Sebit west Pokot County has finally been launched in a function led by President William Ruto on Monday 8th April.
The factory which its construction began in 2010 is set to produce an estimated 6,000 metric tons of clinker daily.
The plant which is owned by the Devki group of companies family is set to boost the job opportunity for West Pokot residents.
According to the companies chairman Narendra Raval the factory has created more than 2, 000 job opportunities directly and several others indirectly while positively impacting the economy in West Pokot county.
Speaking while launching the plant, President William Ruto cited it as a monumental step in the industrialization journey in quest for self-reliance in respect of strategic goods.
In addition President Ruto said that the plant will expedite economic growth of west Pokot County and the nation as a whole.
“This is a moment to witness the enormous resource potential of this county and its economic benefits to the local community and to our nation Kenya,” said President Ruto.
Further, Ruto also noted that the investment aligns with his agenda of creating job opportunities for Kenyans, where 2,500 people will be working in the factory every day.
“Over the last four years, 5000 people have been working in this plant. Going forward, 2,500 people will be working here every day,” he said.
On the other side,West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin stated that the opening of the clinker plant in Sebit is just the beginning of opening up the county for more investors, considering it has many resources which if used well, will be of great benefit to the residents and the nation as a whole.
Similarly,the county boss expressed his confidence in more investors to invest in various development projects in the county.
“This is just the beginning of opening up this county to more investors. I am confident that we will have more investors in this county, as we always say, this is a county of hidden treasures,” said governor Kachapin.
On his part, Mr. Raval appealed to the community to support the project as they stand to benefit from it.
He said, the target is to dispel negative perceptions and foster sustainable development in the region.
“We want to change the image of West Pokot county and dispel negative perceptions,” he said.
