Border Security Officers Blamed For A Recent Attack At Kasei, West Pokot County
By Emmanuel Oyasi,
The security troops patrolling the border areas of West Pokot County and the neighboring Turkana County have been asked to perform their duty of curbing insecurity cases reported to have started after a period of calmness.
Speaking to Kalya Digital, Seker member of county assembly Jane Mengich condemned the killing of two women in the gold mines at Songok area of Kasei ward in Kacheliba constituency on Thursday last week.
Mengich claimed that cases of insecurity that had calmed down due to the presence of security officers have started to be witnessed due to the negligence of the security officers in the camps at the border areas.
“I ask the security agencies at the borders of this county to be vigilant and make sure our people are safe from bandit attacks,” said Mrs. Mengich.
Mengich called on the Deputy County Commissioners from both sides to work together to combat banditry that has rendered locals sleepless nights over the years.
She asked security agencies to ensure a return to normalcy and deter any re-emergence of the bandits.
“The DCCs of both sides should work together and make sure that their officers conduct patrols as expected in collaboration with the National Police Reservists NPR and end this insecurity issue,” she added.
Last week’s incident saw armed bandits, suspected to have crossed from Turkana County, attempting to raid the community and steal livestock, though their plan was thwarted.
