Bar Owners Forced to Run Businesses as Per Regulations

The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) in collaboration with stakeholders, held a meeting with bar owners in West Pokot county to discuss ways of controlling the business in a campaign that is being led by the government.

Speaking after meeting the bar owners, NACADA chief executive officer, north rift region, Eunice Arubia, encouraged the liquor traders to make sure they comply fully with the law.

She praised the governor of West Pokot County together with the county commissioner for making sure that the county has the least number of bars in the region and the entire nation.

“I congratulate the governor and the county commissioner for ensuring that west pokot county has the least number of bars in the entire nation. I urge the bar owners to ensure that they comply with the regulations,” said Mrs. Arubia.

The county liquor licensing board Chairman Mike Silorot said that all liquor dealers will reapply for licenses where they will also be vetted before being issued with licenses to run their business.

“Starting today, bar owners will resend applications for licenses. They will also be vetted before being issued with licenses,” said Mr. Silorot.

On his part, Kapenguria Deputy County Commissioner Wyclife Munanda expressed confidence that the efforts that have been initiated to control the liquor business will be successful.

At the same time, Munanda said that search for liquor traders who do not comply with regulations has kicked off.

“We are going to regulate the liquor business in Kapenguria Sub County as we have already informed bar owners of what is needed,” said Mr. Munanda.
