Azimio Leader Raila Odinga Thanks Museveni For Endorsement

Azimio leader and Kenya’s opposition leader Raila Odinga has expressed his gratitude to Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for endorsing him for African Union Candidacy.

While making his remarks on X formerly twitter, the opposition leader noted that in a meeting with Uganda’s head of state, they took time to discus his candidacy for Chairperson of the African Union Commission.

“Several days ago, I accepted an invitation from President @KagutaMuseveni of Uganda for a joint meeting with President @WilliamRuto today to discuss the deepening of the regional integration within the East African Community,” read Raila’s post.

Notably the Azimio leader met Ugandan President Museveni on 26th February alongside President Wiliam Ruto at Kisozi in Uganda where he added that his endorsement was part of the discussion.

“I am very grateful to President Museveni for strongly endorsing my candidacy and to President Ruto for fully backing it,” tweeted Raila.

Raila Odinga Announcement For AU Candidacy

Opposition leader Raila Odinga on Thursday 15th February made public his intentions to vie for the African Union Commission chairmanship.

Meanwhile his bid came at a time when the tenure of incumbent Moussa Faki of Chad is coming to an end.

During his announcement, Raila said that he was the right candidate for the job.

Notably, a candidate for AU Commission chairman must be fronted by a member state, meaning President Ruto’s administration will be spearheading Raila’s candidature.

Should Raila become the next AU Commission chair, it means that he will have to exit the country’s political space.
