Ababu Namwamba Attends the Burial Ceremony of the Late Hakizimana Gervais

The Cabinet Secretary of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy & Sports Ababu Namwamba has on Wednesday 21st led mourners in celebrating the life of the late Coach Hakizimana Gervais in Kigali.

Hakizimana Gervais, who was the coach of the late world marathon runner Kelvin Kiptum has been laid to rest at the Rusororo Cemetery in Kigali, Rwanda.

Coach Gervais died in a grisly road accident along the Elgeyo-Marakwet Ravine Road alongside Kelvin Kiptum on the 11th of February, 2024.

The accident claimed the life of the two, Coach Gervais and Kelvin Kiptum instantly leaving an injured female passenger.

Meanwhile an autospy which was conducted on the body of the late Hakizimana was rejected by his family.

At the time the family stated that the nature and degree of the injuries are inconsistent with the initial appearance of their kin moments after the tragedy.

According to an autopsy report conducted by pathologist Dr. Benson Macharia, the deceased died as a result of a head injury.

“When we viewed him, he did not have fractures at all. We therefore reject this report,” the deceased’s niece Sandrine said.

Further the government in a statement through the Ministry of Sports has confirmed that the late Kelvin Kiptum will be laid to rest on Friday 23rd February 2024 at his home after the completion of the construction of his family house.

“Kelvin Kiptum will be laid to rest on 23rd February, 2024 at his home in Chepsoma village in Elgeyo Marakwet,” read the statement in part.
