Khalif assures teachers of their security as closed schools reopen in Cheptulel
By Emmanuel Oyasi,
West Pokot County Commissioner Abdulahi Khalif has assured teachers working in hostile areas at the County’s borders of their security as they carry on their daily duties.
Speaking on Sunday at an event in the Cheptulel area, Mr. Khalif said that the government is developing strategies to ensure that academic activities in schools that were affected by banditry fully resume without challenges.
He used the opportunity to announce that the government will send five National Police Reservists (NPR) to every school in Cheptulel to ensure security and give children in those areas a chance for education as it is in other parts of the country.
“I want to assure all teachers and pupils that we will maintain peace, we will maintain security, and in each school, we will provide five NPRs to ensure the security of children as they go to school,” said Mr. Khalif.
At the same time, Khalif said in Collaboration with other leaders of West Pokot County, they have submitted proposals to President William Ruto to create a sub-county named Chesogon, to ensure that security is fully addressed.
He assured the residents that they would make efforts to ensure that this is achieved.
“We submitted proposals to the president to create the Chesogon sub-county. I assure the residents here that we will follow up on this issue until it is implemented,” he said.
