We Will Not Go To Class Until Our Demands Are Met- KUPPET
By Benson Aswani,
The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has remained steadfast in their demands for the upcoming strike.
Speaking to Kalya Fm Digital after the branch general assembly held in West Pokot, KUPPET deputy secretary general Moses Nthurima said teachers will not return to class until their demands are met according to the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) signed between the teachers and the government.
Mr. Nthurima called on parents to stay with their children at home as no teachers will attend to them as from 26th August when schools reopen for the third term.
“This is the message that we are bringing here today, to tell the country and the parents that on the 26th of this month, teachers will not report back to school. So they will have to make contingent arrangements to have their children at home,” said Mr. Nthurima.
Mr. Nthurima said that teachers will never participate in further negotiations with the government as their demands are clear and they are waiting for the implementation of the agreement.
“Collective Bargaining Agreement that we signed in 2023, is already deposited in court and for that reason, we are not willing to negotiate,” he said.
Nthurima’s statement was echoed by branch leaders led by the gender secretary for Trans Nzoia KUPPET branch Immaculate Chesarang who insisted that they will only allow teachers to return to classes after their agreement with the government is honored.
“We want to tell the employer that come 26th of August, no CBA, no third term. We are tired and we will not allow our teachers to go back to class until our demands are met,” said Mrs. Chesarang.
