Kerio Valley Leaders Called Upon To Devise Ways Of Ending Banditry
By Benson Aswani,
Sigor Member of Parliament Peter Lochakapong has expressed the need for cooperation among the leaders of West Pokot County and the neighboring Turkana to ensure peace at the borders of the two counties.
Speaking at a peace meeting that brought together leaders from the two counties at Lami Nyeusi, Mr. Lochakapong said that through working together, the leaders will be able to find a solution to the insecurity issue, cautioning against blanket condemnation and pointing fingers against communities.
He asked chiefs from both sides to form committees that will identify and take action against the perpetrators of insecurity.
“We have decided as leaders from West Pokot and Turkana counties to work together to end insecurity cases in the borders of our counties,” said Mr. Kachapin.
His statements were echoed by Turkana South Member of Parliament John Ariko, who also called on the residents of the two counties to live in harmony.
“I call upon our people from either side to live in harmony. This will allow them to conduct their activities together without fear of attacks,” said Mr. Ariko.
On her side, nominated member of county assembly Marishana Cheruto called on women from both counties to be at the forefront in preaching peace by ensuring that their children do not engage in criminal activities.
“As mothers, we have a great responsibility to make sure we bring an end to this insecurity issue. We are the ones who have an opportunity to prevent our children and husbands from getting involved in banditry,” she said.
