7 Year Old Girl Killed by Bandits Laid to Rest in Kamologon

A seven year old girl killed by bandits one week ago has been laid to rest in Kamologon area in the boarder of West Pokot County and Elgeyo Marakwet County.

The burial which was attended by area chief and area leaders saw them call for security to be maintained along the boarders of West Pokot County and Elgeyo Marakwet.

At the time of the burial the area residents called on the government to strengthen its efforts to assure the residents of the border areas of the Kerio valley counties are safe.

Notably the call comes at the height of frequent raids that are being carried out by suspected livestock thieves that has costed the lives of many residents in the area.

Speaking at the funeral of the 7-year-old child who was killed by criminals in the Kamologon area on the border of the West Pokot county and the neighboring Elgeyo Marakwet county, the head of public service in the county, Martine Lotee, requested for a police station to be built in the Kamologon area.

“We are very sorry to lose children like these due to lack of security. We are asking the national government to build a police station in this area to ensure the safety of the residents,” said Lotee.

His statement was emphasized by ward representatives led by the Tapach ward representative Samwel Korinyang who also expressed the need to create peace committees on both sides that will continue efforts to reach a solution to this long-term problem.

“We agreed to form peace committees on the side of Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet, but our colleagues from Marakwet have not formed that committee. We want these committees to be created so that they will find a solution to this problem that has troubled us for many years,” said Korinyang.

Likewise, West Pokot County Peace Director Veronica Long’ole commended the county government for providing food aid and other consumer goods to victims of insecurity, calling on the National Government to also take the same course to ensure the residents are receiving help.

“We thank the county government for providing assistance to the victims of insecurity in this area. We are asking the National Government to also intervene and ensure that these residents get help especially with food because they are going through a very difficult situation at the moment,” said Long’ole.
