West Pokot Leaders Condemn the Killing of 7 Year Old at Kamologon

West Pokot county leaders have strongly condemned the recent raid at Kamologon area on the borders of West Pokot and the neighboring Elgeyo Marakwet County that led to the killing of a 7 year old girl.

The leaders led by Weiwei member of county assembly David Moiben, termed the act as shameful, urging the government to step up its efforts of flushing out the criminals who continue killing innocent citizens.

Notably, according to reports, the attacks carried out by the cattle rustlers had decreased significantly in Kamologon area since the beginning of this year.

“This is a shameful act, we ask the government to step up its efforts in dealing with these criminals. We cannot allow a few people to continue killing innocent citizens,” said Mr. Moben.

In addition, Mr. Moiben asked the peace committees from both counties to convene a peace meeting that will include leaders from the two counties to deliberate on how to ensure that peace lasts especially in the border areas.

At the same time, he praised the security units for responding swiftly to the call and ensuring that the livestock that were stolen by the criminals are returned.

“We thank our security team for responding quickly and making sure that they return the stolen livestock,” he said.

The area peace chairman Clement Ngilipa asked the government to construct the security roads in the area to allow police officers conduct security operations without challenges.

“Security officers are going through challenges dealing with these criminals due to the lack of good roads in this area. I ask the government to construct security roads to allow them do their work without such challenges,” said Mr Ngilipa.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased identified a Shirleen Juliasia was later collected at the scene by the police officers and taken to Kapenguria County referral hospital for postmortem.

Worth noting is that the attack comes barely days after the KDF chopper carrying former and the late chief of defense forces general Francis Ogolla alongside other nine KDF officers crashed at Sintar area along the border of West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet Counties.

It has come to the attention of leaders that cattle raids and retaliatory attacks persist despite the security operation that is being carried out by the police officers and Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) soldiers in the troubled Kerio Valley region.
