Samburu Governor Jonathan Lelelit has raised an alarm on political leaders being harrased by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) through issuing regular summons against them.

Governor Lelelit spoke on Tuesday 5th March 2024 after he was summoned by DCI on the ongoing surge in banditry in Sumburu county.

According to Governor Lelelit, political leaders are summoned on a daily basis which according to him is limiting their work delivery.

“Some people are being called on a daily basis it is unfortunate instead of us being out there helping our people we are being summoned here, two days ago an MCA was here almost on a daily basis we have someone here,” said Governor Leleit.

Meanwhile, Governor Lelelit Tuesday’s summon by DCI was the second in one month after the DCI Rift Valley region called upon him to shed light into the ongoing incidence of banditry in Samburu County.

Likewise, his time with DCI lasted 10 minutes and he reportedly signed crucial documents provided by the investigators before leaving.

Meanwhile, this comes after West Pokot leaders led by West Pokot Deputy Governor Robert Komolee were held by DCI in Nakuru in regards to banditry in the region.

On the other hand, in Samburu County, armed bandits who had planned to lay an ambush at Morijo area along the Maralal – Baragoi Road on Tuesday morning were repulsed by Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers.

Samburu County Commander Thomas Ototo confirmed that officers scuttled the plan that was aimed at paralyzing transport along the route. Tension however remains high in the area.
